This story has been updated with new information about the release date, pricing, and specs of Intel’s i7 8086K CPU.
British retailer Overclockers UK has loosely briefed its forum goers on the upcoming Intel i7 8086K CPU. In a post by Overclockers staff, the retailer outlines that it will be selling the anniversary hexacore chip for sub-£400, and that the company will be offered its own binning and delidding service for the chips once it goes up for pre-order on June 8.
The post also outlines that any retailer breaking NDA will have its stock allocation restricted. Strangely enough, this forum post has since been edited, and further staff posts on the matter removed.
How does Intel’s i7 8700K stack up against the competition? Here are the best CPUs for gaming.
Delidding services on offer also confirm that this pre-binned chip will not be soldered, which may be off-putting to some of this CPUs target enthusiast audience. This isn’t all that surprising from Chipzilla, however, as the chip giant didn’t even solder its latest HEDT CPUs.
It all seemed a little far-fetched for Chipzilla to be launching a sweet anniversary edition for its x86-iversary, but this powerful chip isn’t quite as cherubic as you may expect. Supposedly, the chip will essentially be the 8700K silicon binned for a monster 5GHz single-core max Turbo, and a 4GHz base clock. For comparison, the 8700K runs 300MHz slower across the board.
