Intel is approaching the big 5-0, and to celebrate, some retailers have listed the Coffee Lake Core i7 8086K CPU that has been half-heartedly rumoured since the start of the year. It now seems likely that Intel is planning to mark the anniversary of the instruction set that made it all happen, x86, with a specially binned six-core chip.
It all seemed a little far-fetched for Chipzilla to be launching a sweet anniversary edition for its x86-iversary, but this powerful chip isn’t quite as cherubic as you may expect. Supposedly, the chip will essentially be the 8700K silicon binned for a monster 5GHz single-core max Turbo, and a 4GHz base clock. For comparison, the 8700K runs 300MHz slower across the board.
How does Intel’s i7 8700K stack up against the competition? Here are the best CPUs for gaming.
So that means the rumoured i7 8086K - yep, still an i7 and not an i9, according to retailers - will likely be a hexacore Intel i7 8700K chip with all the usual goodies, such as HyperThreading enabled, 12MB of L3 Cache, and will come fitted with Intel’s UHD Graphics 630.
While the Intel i7 8700K has a TDP of 95W, the i7 8086K could potentially feature a slight bump - potentially 105W by our estimates. We also have a rough idea on pricing for the anniversary chip now, thanks to the spot from VideoCardz.
